Co.mments.com turns comments into RSS
OK, so you visit my comment feed and leave a comment. How will you know if someone has left an update? There’s a new service named co.mments.com which turns each comment thread into an RSS feed. Aasaf Arkin has more on his blog.

I’ve been using CoComments for a little under a week now, and can happily attest that it works great…that is, for the sites that CoComments actually understands, which unfortunately at this point has only been about two-thirds of the places where I’ve left comments this week. Please, hosting companies, more partnerships with CoComments! (And a disclosure: I’m not affiliated in any way with CoComments - just an early fan.)

Oh, and my public page at CoComments is at http://www.cocomment.com/comments/jasonpettus , for those who would like to see how this page (for example) shows up there.

…And now I feel like an idiot, for just realizing that you’re talking about co.mments, not CoComments.com. Ah, you Web2.0 companies; I sure wish you people would figure out names that don’t all sound like each other!

Uhm, i´m trying co.mments just now
February 14th, 2006 at 12:41 am
Lets see how this works

[...] However, I have run across one very compelling item, co.mments.com/. Now, honestly, it was the very first post I clicked on in my rss reader. The origin of this lead is scoble. I’m not the columbus w/re to co.comments. I’m passing along the "good stuff" [...]

I called it a “clusterconversation” within the “taggardern” here :
http://peterdawson.typepad.com/blog/2006/02/cocomments_as_a.html
I find it interesting

Thanks scoble. This little tool is great. I was waiting to get an invite for cocomment, but co.mment is just what the doctor subscribed. You find the gems and that is why you are one of the gatekeepers!
February 14th, 2006 at 1:19 am
cool! rss for comments. that’s sweet. Hey scobleizer can you tell me what photo gallery plugin should i use that works for the new wordpress? Thanks man.
February 14th, 2006 at 1:26 am
I can just hear the bar conversations now:
“Do you co.comment?”
“Of course I cocomment, doesn’t everyone?”
“No, I meant co.comment?”
“Huh, who’s on first?”
Btw, this “scoblote” has been co.comment’d and cocomment’d…
February 14th, 2006 at 1:34 am
Thanks to Laurent, I am now testing cocomment as well. These are the tools that will be the future of conversations and blogs. Nice.
February 14th, 2006 at 2:25 am
grrr..co.mment and co.mment’d … now the entire joke and punch line are ruined because i can’t type. doh!
backfired humor aside, co.mment is nice. the combination cocomment and co.mment is the ultimate comment tracker. now, the trick will be to get them both to work synchronously with one click.

coComment.com is died, long live co.mments.com
(and/or vice versa)

But, I’m still awaiting for coComments to be used on MT platform. I was told it was to be last Friday, but I don’t see it available yet. I realize projects don’t always go off on schedule. I’ll be patient in the meantime.

This may be better than coComment or MyComments, since you’re not dependent on others clicking or installing a plugin. Let’s see .. I am testing with this thread.

Kewl! I signed up
February 14th, 2006 at 7:06 am
Seeing how their site isn’t loading for me right now can someone tell me how this is any different to that little link above this comments box that says “RSS feed for comments on this post”?
February 14th, 2006 at 8:52 am
“Please, hosting companies, more partnerships with CoComments!”
Rather: please, more built-in RSS feeds for comments!

Robert-
Has bookmarklet support changed in IE7? IE6 restricts them to 508 characters in length, silently trimming excess before processing. It would be nice if IE7 loosened up on this.
This coComments user runs into bookmarklet trouble using coComments on IE7:
http://et.cairene.net/2006/02/07/cocomment/
Without knowing more, it sounds like the bookmarklet gets trimmed by IE7.
Thanks for your insights.

Who wishes to implement the “RSS Republic”?
Here is a sample idea similar to co.mments.com or cocoment.com but above all which aims to makes the blogosphere more “Democratic”. Imagine a service where anyone will be able to freely comment any post without the risk of any possible
February 15th, 2006 at 8:39 am
Why is this such a great innovation? WordPress already has an RSS feed for comments right out of the box. Just append “/feed/” to the end of the post URL and there’s your feed.
For example: http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/2006/02/13/commentscom-turns-comments-into-rss/feed/
February 15th, 2006 at 6:48 pm
Andrew - I was wondering the same thing.
February 15th, 2006 at 11:26 pm
Andrew and Brian: well, at least what I was looking for was a single feed that contained all comments left at all blogs where I had commented. That way I can follow the conversations I’m involved in. This is what co.mment.com does.
coComment does this as well, except that it only includes comments left by other members of coComment! Not so useful. On the other hand, you can also use it to get a single feed with all comments left at *your* blog(s). I guess some people might be interested in that, but it wasn’t what I was looking for.

coco has to be getting faster if they’re notised.
February 17th, 2006 at 11:48 pm
This is quite interesting, I have an idea how coComment works and uses several things to post on the your conversations page, but can’t see how this one works.

[...] coComment is an excellent example of Viral Marketing. Instead of just writing about it in the developer’s blog or releasing a press release, they made people like scoble to talk about it and it reached the peak of fame in a matter of hours. Even I was one among them who got really exited after hearing about them. I was looking for way to handle and follow up after I leave comments on blogs that I read. [...]

[...] Now it seems there are a number of services for doing this in a more automatic way, including: cocomment and co.comment, which heavy-hitters TechCrunch and Scoble have written about recently. I wonder if it’ll take off this time? It still seems labour-intensive, so perhaps not yet. The idea is nice though. Filed under: writing, technology [...]

What I have wanted is for MT to add an option for me to subscribe to a comment block, so that if I test to post a comment in someone’s blog I can get emailed when someone replies, just so that I do not clog up my RSS aggregator with comment feeds. Any suggestions/comments with this?
March 18th, 2008 at 8:19 am
i don’t see this such a great innovation? WordPress already has an RSS feed for comments right out of the box, isn t it?
