From Seagate to SAP
My Silicon Valley education continues with a visit to the boardroom at Seagate today. Hey, my show needs hard drives. Big drives. So, seemed like I should go see one of the valley’s most famous disk drive manufacturers. Met with Julie Still, Vice President of Corporate Communications along with Brian Ziel, Senior Director, Gina Katz, Manager. Great group of folks and very passionate about disk drives! Anyway, what caught my eye was the headquarters’ address: 900 Disc Drive. Cute!
You rarely think about drives or storage media until they fail. Speaking of which I’m in the market for a 750GB drive. Which one is the best? Seagate’s at the top of my list. I like doing business with friendly people.
Anyway, on Monday I’m off to the SAP conference in Las Vegas to film stuff for my show (will only be there on Monday, John is sticking around for a few more days). Mark Finnern there writes about the day on his blog. Looking forward to meeting the SAP’ers, make sure to say hi if you’re there.
Thanks to Beet.tv’s Andy Plesser for the kind wishes on my show.
In the meantime, there’s another interview I did (with the guys who run the Microsoft Exchange team) at Microsoft that got published today over on Channel 9 (I did quite a few in the weeks before I quit that are still being processed and run).

Great News… having a famous Alpha Blogger at SDN Day! Looking forward to meet you there. James Ward (http://www.cayambe.com/wordpress/) and me will do a 2 hour session on using Adobe Flex to create engaging rich user interface for SAP applications. Now I need to check out the SAP Channel on PodTech.
Cheers,

I always use Seagate Drives and have been in their Partner Program for years.

I also use seagate drives — they are also going to be a partner of ours! All my seagate drives have been wonderfully reliable! I just got the 750 GB drive external on sale at Frys for backing up some stuff.

[...] The last days have been pretty hectic. I am getting ready for SAP’s number one tech event the SAP TechEd. This meant installing SAP Web Application Server on VMWare, getting the demos ready, figuring out who needs to go which workshop, preparing for the Demo Jam and many more things. I am flying to Las Vegas on Sunday and expect a long night since I still need to get SAP Web AS ABAP server installed on a machine which is hopefully waiting form me in the hotel. I do not have a monitor yet, but hopefully someone can help me out (if you know where I could use a Monitor in the Venetian Hotel on Sunday afternoon/evening please let me know. Even better let me know if you have a box with the Web AS 6.40 ABAP stack which I could use for the SDN workshop). I am very excited to meet Robert Scoble who will be at SDN Day (the SAP Developer Network Event the day before TechEd starts officially). He will do interviews for PodTech (Until today I did not realize they have an SAP Channel, cool!). So here is a summary of the Adobe content at SAP TechEd and SDN Day we have lined up…. - Two hour hands-on workshop (bring your laptop) to develop Rich Internet Applications with Flex and connect them to SAP (if I can get the ABAP Server running - Four session around Interactive Forms at SDN Day, meaning talk to our developers about the technical details of SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe - Demo Jam - Yes I will compete with a demo showing live coding in Flex Builder developing a cool Flex app connection to SAP in 6 minutes (Please support me with a lot of noise - 12 (!) presentations and workshops featuring Interactive Forms in SAP NetWeaver. This is a great opportunity to get educated on one of the hottest technology in SAP NetWeaver - Exhibition Pods: We have one booth (booth #1) which features everything you want to know about Interactive Forms and allows you to talk to the experts (no sales or marketing people allowed on our booth!) and one pod (pod #1) in the NetWeaver village featuring Adobe Flex technology. It is great to be twice #1 [...]

I’d be happy to help arrange a tour Hitachi Global Storage Technolgies down on Cottle in South San Jose. We’ve got quite a few hardrives too!
Or, if you’re serious about storage, we can talk more on Tuesday at Hitachi Data Systems. Want a few Petabytes?

One thing that really irks me is SAP’s restrictive blogging policy. Their executive blogs (http://www.sap.com/community/pub/blogs.epx) are only accessible if you register for their business community network. Strangely this does not apply to their developers network (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs). So ironically, I can read an RSS of what their developers are saying, but I’m left in the dark about what the executive board members think (they use ‘email alerts’). Not a winning strategy, IMHO.
I’ve complained to them about it and they’ve responded promptly. The response and my comments are here: http://corpblawg.ynada.com/2006/09/09/saps-response-to-my-criticsm
An enjoyable weekend to everyone :-)

I have three Seagate 400gb sata drives in my Media Center PC but with the new ones coming out from them as well as others like Htachi I find myself getting storage envy ;-)
Wife just okayed the budgeting for building a new Media Center and I would love to hear your impressions of the 750gb you end up landing as I would like to put a few of those in it when I buld it out. All my family home video is taking up lots of space (and yes I have it all backed up via 2 methods) What a change from the days of my first computer, an Apple IIe. :-)

Scobleizer visits SAP TechEd
Robert Scoble (Scobleizer) is going to visit the SDN day at the SAP TechEd in Las Vegas. Why? Because he is working for PodTech, where SAP runs an own channel, and will participate at the SDN day and do some videocasts.
Looking forward to it…
